We took notes about cells and its characteristics, and also the two types of cells. There are eukaryote and prokaryote cells, and they both belong to different types of organisms. Eukaryotic cells are the basic of humans, plants, animals, and protists. While Prokaryotic cells belongs to bacterias, which is the only known prokaryotic cell based organism. I also learned about the different organelles composing those two types of cells, which I will further explain in the vocabulary page. What I would like to learn more about cells are how cells works and to understand fully about all the organelles and its function.
![]() In today's lesson, we were divided in groups for our project. Each group must create a timeline which represents the development of cells throughout the years. From the assignment, I learned that the discovery of cells started from the invention of a compound microscope. It was first created by Hans and Zacharias Jansen in 1590. But cells were first discovered by Robert Hooke, as he examines a tree bark back in 1665 using a 3 lens compound microscope. He saw the hollow compartments which looks like small rooms or cells, and that is the origin of its name. We continued the unfinished movie from yesterday, and we did the cell pre assessment. I didn’t complete the pre assessment because I did not know all the answers to the questions and have forgotten the things I have learned about cells before. So I need to learn more about the type of cells, components that builds up a cell, and how does cells work.
![]() We watched I am Legend, which is a Will Smith movie, about the last person in his country surviving from a disease. In the beginning, a scientist explained that she has cured cancer by using cells from measles bacteria. But her experiment failed and it caused the people of New York to turn into zombies, except for Robert (Will Smith). Who has learned the zombies’ character and is able to protect himself from them. After three years, he met a woman and her child, and decided to protect them too. Robert finally succeeds in making the cure, but then zombies attacked his house and he sacrificed himself to save the woman and her child. In the end, the woman and her child brought the cure to a safe community and lived there. From the movie, I learned that diseases could easily attack the human cells causing the entire body to be infected by the virus |
